October Offshore Action | Yellowfin and Longfin Tuna Fishing

The 2025 tuna season is off to a powerful start. On 22 and 23 October, the Cape Point Tuna Charters crew headed about 80 km south of Cape Point for two full days of action. The conditions were challenging but perfect for big tuna. With early launches, long runs and plenty of rod time, this was a true Cape Point Tuna Charters outing. With consistent Yellowfin and Longfin the deck was kept busy.

Day 1 - Testing The Waters

22nd October 2025

We launched at 5:00 am with light SSE winds and steady mid-period swells. The ocean had energy but was fishable, so we started trolling with Rapala lures and Teaser bird trolling lures.

By mid-morning, the reels came alive, producing three Longfin Tuna around 20 kg each. Every strike brought pure excitement as the crew worked together to bring them onboard.

Not everything went smoothly though. Out of five onboard, two anglers got seasick and spent most of the day lying on the deck. Let’s just say our chumming didn’t go as planned. Still, it was a productive day filled with laughs, good spirit, and a reminder of how unpredictable deep sea fishing around Cape Point can be.

Day 2 – The Yellowfin Showdown

23nd October 2025

The next morning only three anglers returned for the second day. We launched at 5:30 am, running south of Cape Point in calm conditions with long rolling swells. The morning started with steady action while trolling Rapala lures and Teaser bird trolling lures, producing two Longfin Tuna in the 15–20 kg range.

Later in the day, we switched to chumming with sardines. After a short wait, the Yellowfin Tuna began to move through the slick. The bite was consistent and controlled, resulting in five Yellowfin Tuna between 40 and 50 kg, with two caught on the troll and three while chumming.

By 7:30 pm, we returned to port with a solid day’s catch and a satisfied crew. It was a smooth, productive session that showed exactly why Cape Point Tuna Charters remains one of the top choices for deep sea tuna fishing in South Africa.

Two days on the water delivered eight tuna and endless memories. The Cape Point Tuna Charters team proved once again why this coastline is one of the best tuna fishing destinations in South Africa. From Longfin to Yellowfin Tuna, every trip offers something special.

If you missed this run, don’t let the next one pass you by. The tuna are biting, the crew is ready, and the ocean is calling.
